2026 COLOR OF THE YEAR: WARM EUCALYPTUS

STEPS

1. Evaluate the space and set your goals

This guest room never really got used, so I decided to claim it as my first dedicated home office. I wanted it to feel calm, grounded, and personal — but also add some custom architectural details so it didn’t feel so builder-basic.

2. Pick your paint color

I went with Warm Eucalyptus 8004-28F, Valspar’s 2026 Color of the Year. It’s a warm, versatile green that feels timeless but still has enough personality to make the space feel intentional and cozy.

3. Head to Lowe’s for supplies

I picked up Valspar® Signature Interior Paint + Primer in an eggshell finish for the walls, ceiling, and trim. I grabbed painter’s tape, drop cloths, a sanding block, a spackling kit, and Valspar’s Walls, Ceilings & Trim kit — plus all my trim moulding.

4. Clear out the room

I emptied the space completely, so I had a blank slate to work with. I also wiped down all surfaces so the trim and paint would adhere properly.

5. Install the chair rail

I measured around the entire room and installed chair rail moulding at 32 inches high to break up the walls and add dimension.

6. Add picture frame moulding

Above and below the chair rail, I mapped out and installed 23 picture frame boxes using base cap moulding. I used a level to keep everything straight and made sure to plan around outlets and switches.

7. Spackle, sand, and caulk all trim

Once the trim was up, I spackled all nail holes and seams, then sanded smooth with a sanding block. I caulked any gaps to get crisp lines once painted.

8. Tape off and prep

I masked off the floor, windows, and any edges I didn’t want painted with 2-inch painter’s tape. I always recommend removing outlet covers for a cleaner finish.

9. Paint the room

I cut in around the trim and ceiling edges, then rolled Warm Eucalyptus 8004-28F over every surface — walls, ceiling, trim, doors — to really drench the room in color.

10. Style the space

Once the paint dried, I brought in my custom sit/stand desk, thrifted artwork, family photos, and a few vintage finds to warm up the space and make it feel lived-in.
