Causes:

  • Not allowing enough time for the paint to dry or fully cure before surfaces are put into contact
  • Painting in hot, humid or damp conditions
  • Applying a coat before the previous layer has fully dried
  • Using paint with poor block resistance in high-friction areas

RECOMMENDED SOLUTIONS

  • Follow recommended dry and recoat times listed on the product label. Most latex paints need 2 to 4 hours between coats and up to 2 weeks for a full cure.
  • Avoid painting when humidity is high or when temperatures are outside the ideal range
    (usually 50 °F to 90 °F).
  • Leave doors, windows or drawers slightly ajar during drying to prevent contact and sticking.
  • If blocking occurs, gently sand and recoat once conditions allow.
