Causes:

  • Using low-quality paint that lacks flexibility or adhesion
  • Inadequate surface preparation (e.g., dirt, chalk, old flaking paint not removed)
  • Applying paint too thin or too thick, or not following the recommended spread rate

RECOMMENDED SOLUTIONS

  • Scrape away all loose or flaking paint using a paint scraper or wire brush.
  • Sand the edges smooth to feather the transition between bare and painted areas.
  • Wash the surface thoroughly to remove dirt, mildew or chalk.
  • Spot-prime exposed or bare areas before applying topcoat.
  • Apply paint at the recommended spread rate using a quality brush or roller, and avoid applying too thin.
